The night was calm. It had been raining all night every night for that week except for that one night. The moon was full with not a cloud in site. Thousands of stars were visible. Godric's Hollow seemed peaceful.

Three streets away a cloaked figure was walking alone. The black cloak was very long, it almost looked like the figure was gliding rather than walking. It has a grace about it. The figure stopped under a lamppost. The orange light reflected of it's pale white face. The creature had slits for nostrils, had no hair and had fiery red eyes. The creature spoke in a high, sharp voice.

Voldemort: Stupid Muggles. Sat at home without a care in the world. Not knowing that I intend to destroy what is considered to be my undoing.

VOLDEMORT!

The figure span around to find a boy standing before him. The boy was wearing Hogwarts robes, with the Slytherin symbol and sowing. His face was concealed by his leathered, hooded cloak.

Voldemort: You'd be a fool to address me like that.

Stranger: Do you prefer Tom? After tonight it won't matter anyway.

Voldemort: Who dares challenge Lord Voldemort?!. If you hadn't addressed me disrespectfully I would have asked you to join me and my followers. Lord Voldemort praises courage but hates arrogance.

Stranger: I'll never join you! You killed my parents!

Voldemort: If I did then that was because they were Mud-blood fools who deserved to die.

Stranger: Actually they were pure blood, not that it matters. They went to school with you.....It's a bit rich of you to insult none pure bloods. My father never understood why you would hate fellow half bloods.

Voldemort: SILENCE!

Voldemort's voice echoed through the streets.

Stranger: I've been watching you. I know what you seek. I will not allow you to reach Godric's Hallow.

Voldemort froze for a moment.

'Did they know? Could the prophecy have been heard by a member of the Order? No! Off course not, If they had they would have sent a few members to stop me'.

Voldemort: Who are you?!

Stranger: Can't read my mind? I've been training! Your powers won't work against me Riddle!

Voldemort: You must die!

Voldemort raised his wand.

Voldemort: Avada Kedavra!

A shot of green light exploded from Voldemort's want as it flew towards the mysterious figure.

Stranger: Ascendio!

The stranger flew up in the air and dodged the deadly beam. He pointed his wand at Voldemort.

Stranger: Avada Kedavra!

Voldemort merely flicked his wand and the beam heading towards him disappeared.

The stranger landed on his feet, crouched. He slowly got up. Staring at Voldemort, teeth grinding.

Voldemort: You've never used an unforgivable Curse before have you.

Stranger: I've been saving it for you.

Voldemort: For me!

The dark lord started laughing.

Voldemort: You think you can defeat Lord Voldemort! Heir of Salizar Slytherin! The greatest wizard of all time! The immortal! The greatest! You believe you can defeat me?! You believe you are the so called chosen one!

Stranger: I am the chosen one! The one who's actions will allow you to die!

Voldemort: You are no match for me! Your death will be a reminder to anyone who wishes to avenge their pathetic friend or relative. You disrespect the Slytherin name!

Stranger: This ends now! Colloshoo!

Voldemort raised his wand, expecting a a beam of light to come shooting towards him. None came.

Voldemort: Pathetic!

Voldemort went to stride towards him but found that his feet were glued to the ground by ectoplasm.

Voldemort glared at the stranger who had already started running towards him.

Stranger: Confringo!

Flames shot towards Voldemort who stabbed his wand into the ground and within seconds it crumbled as his feet and he was free. He darted merely seconds out of the way.

Stranger: Expelliarmus!

The spell hit Voldemort on the shoulder and he was knocked back a step.

Voldemort screamed with rage.

Voldemort: Avada Kedavra!

The beam of light came towards the stranger.

The stranger pointed his wand directly at the floor before him.

Stranger: Expulso!

The ground blew up and the boy disappeared in a cloud of dust.

The dust cloud cleared and the boy was gone.

Voldemort: All fear Lord Voldemort! You are no exception!

Voldemort turned to leave the scene and continue to Godric's Hollow when he heard a familiar voice.

Stranger: I told you It doesn't end here! You will pay for what you've done, Voldemort!

Voldemort: You're brave boy! But foolish. Enough fun and games! I'm going to reunite you with your blood traitor parents!

Stranger: Immobulus!

Another beam shot towards Voldemort, who waved his wand and dismissed the spell.

The stranger was getting even angrier now!

Voldemort: Incarcerous!

Rope shot out of his wand and wrapped themselves around the stranger. He fell to the ground and started struggling. The ropes were getting tighter.

Voldemort slowly walked towards him. A little smirk emerged on his face. He spoke softly.

Voldemort: And only now, you see the truth. Only I can live forever. Only I can cheat death and pass it on to whoever I see fit.

Voldemort waved his wand and the ropes vanished. Before the stranger had time to react, Voldemort had raised his wand again.

Voldemort: Crucio!

The stranger started twitching silently, letting out a few grunts now and then.

Voldemort looked amazed and bewildered.

Voldemort: You are like no wizard I have ever met. It seems a shame to kill you. CRUCIO!

The spell doubled in power. The stranger yelled out in pain.

Voldemort: Who are you!

The stranger continued yelling out in pain but shook his head at Voldemort.

Voldemort: Who are you!

The boy continued to resist the question.

Voldemort stopped the curse.

The boy lay on the floor breathing heavily.

Voldemort: I have no time for you. Lord Voldemort has a busy schedule you know?

He raised his wand and aimed at the boy's chest.

Voldemort: And you thought you were the chosen one.....

Stranger: I am the chosen one. The one who's actions will allow you to die. Every second you've spent fighting with me has only cost you your prise!

Voldemort: What?!

A friend of mine, Gareth Johnson, I sent him to warn the Potters, warn them of your coming. Like I said, I've been watching you. I knew you had a spy in the Order Of The Phoenix....Knew I would have to deal with you myself. Gareth Johnson has moved them to another safe location and I'm his Secret Keeper. I'm the chosen one... destined to save the one will will destroy you....

The stranger laughed weakly as he lay on the ground.

Voldemort stared at him blankly for a second then started laughing.

The stranger stopped laughing.

Voldemort: I met the Johnson boy flying in this direction, and took care of him not 10 minutes ago.

Stranger: No...NO! I do not believe you! That's impossible!

Voldemort: You 2 were the only ones who knew of tonight and you decided to 'deal' with me yourselves. How juvenile.

The stranger lay still, fists clenched.

Stranger: Damn you!!!

Voldemort walked up to him and placed his wand on the boy's throat. The boy remained hooded.

Voldemort: Any last words?

Stranger: I....Look long and hard at what will happen to you, Riddle!

Voldemort was furious. Even when facing death, this child could address him by his name.

Voldemort: Avada Kedavra!

The stranger crumpled.

Voldemort stared at him for a few seconds before proceeding to his hood. When he pulled his hood back he was met with a site so horrifying it made him yell in fright and horror.

Staring back at him was a handsome looking boy, pale skinned with black hair. Tom Marvolo Riddle.

It was himself only aged 15-16, dead.

Voldemort stepped back in horror.

Voldemort: What?....How....Bogart? He raised his wand with his shaking hand. He pointed it at the corpse and seemed to scan his body with it until a small bottle came out of the breast pocket. Voldemort sniffed it.

Voldemort: Polyjuice Potion.....

Voldemort stared at his dead self for a moment, frozen by fear. He managed to turn away and without looking back muttered "Incendio"

The corpse burned to dust.

Voldemort put his head in his hands before pointing his wand at his head.

Voldemort: Obliviate.

Voldemort froze for a second before he started walking towards Godric's Hollow. The scare from the imposter was to deep. It couldn't be erased from his mind. Not unless Voldemort wanted to wipe more than just the duel from his memory.

Voldemort understood what the stranger's purpose was. He wanted to scare Voldemort and prevent him from killing the Potter child. He knew he was walking to his death. He knew Voldemort's biggest fear was himself dead. He knew Voldemort would have to look at his fear and remember the words -

"Look long and hard at what will happen to you..."

To this day people who have heard this story and don't consider it a myth, wonder whether the stranger's act threw Voldemort off his prime and caused him to fall at Lily Potter's protective charms.

Those that believe the story have worked endlessly to find the true identifying of the stranger to honer him but have had no luck.

The Wizarding World thanks you. Your actions allowed Harry Potter to prevail.

You are the true Chosen one.
Based 30 minutes before Lily & James Potter fell to Lord Voldemort.

Why did Voldemort not consider the obvious protective spells?

Was something else on Tom Riddle's Mind other than Killing Harry Potter
